Trotting down the stairs, Janie came out onto the driveway of the up and down duplex. Walking to the end of the driveway, she turned west on Fleet Avenue. The 7-11 was only three blocks away and an easy walk.

The back door opened and a young man got out and stepped to the pay phone. He was reaching for the phone as Janie passed between him and the Mercury.
Spinning suddenly, Kevin grabbed Janie before she could react and propelled her towards the back door of the car, his hand over her mouth to keep her from screaming.
